Want to sell your scrap gold for the best price in Manchester? If you believe some of the "too good to be true gold prices on the Internet, you know the ones with made up company names like ukcashscrapgold etc then read on.
You may have been searching the Internet and seen a very high gold price per gram from postal gold companies and indeed many other companies. This may seem  attractive at first but beware. Its the trend at the moment to offer very high Internet prices to get people in but then the tricks begin!
1/ Internet based scrap gold "cash for scrap gold" companies often charge refining fees and state that they only pay the high price for 9  carat "British hallmarked Gold" They pay a lot less for "non-British hallmarked gold" Given that around 40% of gold being sold has this full British mark (a lot just says 375 or 9ct) you end up with a lot less than you should.. Gold is gold and we dont differentiate between the types of 9 carat hallmarks.
2/ The latest trick is for companies to pay you a reasonable price (not as good as our price) for 9 caratbut then they will pay you less than a fair price for 18 carat. 18 carat is worth double what 9 carat is worth, so beware.
3/ Some shave off weight for what they call impurities etc &  knock off too much gold weight for stones etc This is unfair. Some companies just underweigh your gold. We use Trading Standards Calibrated Scales.
4/ Some companies charge refining and admin fees of up to 10% but they won't tell you till you have travelled miles. Others won't return your items till you pay a hidden charge. Some just won't return your gold even if you refuse their offer OR they'll charge you..
5/ Some  offer above bullion prices for Sovereigns/Coins in mint condition but then when you arrive they downgrade the coins condition so you end up with far less.
6/ Others treat your 18ct gold as 9 ct  and your 22ct as 18ct. etc They also reserve the right to change the price per gram paid at any time, meaning you could have a wasted journey.
7/ Another latest trick is when a jeweller in manchester says "we pay more than scrap for some items and we sell them as items so bring them in...... Be warned jewellers can't sell gold as jewellery at the moment, and scrap is so high they would be insane to pay you more than an items scrap value . Even antique dealers want items for well below scrap so be careful ..
